Background Dubbelleuk is a Dutch foundation created by young parents who, as professional volunteers try to add some extra value to society. Established in 2000, the foundation consists of various types of people from different walks of life: a manager, a theatre consultant, a visual artist, a communication manager and a lawyer. Dubbelleuk literally means "double fun".
Philosophy Dubbelleuk Each year Dubbelleuk organises a theatre event in the Netherlands for thousands of socially deprived children (i.e. children of drug parents, abused children, orphans). Our philosophy is to offer them an enjoyable and inspirational afternoon of high quality theatre, music and dance alongside freefood and drinks. The event is sponsored by companies and private persons who provide donations in the form of cash or supplies.
What makes this afternoon "double fun" is the fact that it functions both as an unique Dutch event and for vulnerable children abroad.
Kenyan schooltheatre tour With our help, in October 2006 local Kenyans have organised an unique tour of theatre and music for the school children in the slums of Nairobi (Kenya). In just a week the tour visited more than 25 schools and reached around 16.000 schoolchildren in various slums. The performing artists came primarily from our Kenian partner Sarakasi Trust, a foundation that functions as a platform for street children to make the most of their talents as an artist with the opportunity to build a future.
With this event we hope to have given the Kenyanschoolchildren a moment of happiness and that some of them will feel anaffinity for the theatre and be inspired to develop their own talents.
Kenyan schoolworkshops In order to make this project more sustainable, we have organised with our partner Sarakasi and sponsored workshops for the school children performed by trainers of Sarakasi. Unfortunately due to the instable situation in Kenya Sarakasi has been forced to suspend the workshops but since March this year they have been resumed.
In 2003 Dubbelleuk was chosen by the public as the best volunteer project of the year.
